Rafael Montilla, best known as “Kube Man,” is a Miami-based multidisciplinary artist. His work is grounded in geometric abstraction, and the cube assumes a central role in my artistic proposal. The cube symbolizes profound concepts such as Harmony, Gratitude, Compassion, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Balance, resonating with our inner and outer existence. Rafael’s objective is to achieve conscious evolution of humanity, aiming to create a more harmonious and sustainable world for present and future generations. Mayor Tomas Regalado declared August 19, 2016, as Rafael Montilla Visual Artist Day in the City of Miami.
“People fight for their mental slavery as if it were their salvation”
My work lies at the intersection of geometry, nature, and science. I believe that art should be a constant quest to unravel and express the underlying laws of the universe. I do not seek to represent reality as we see it, but rather to capture its fundamental laws through a visual language that is universal and accessible. Geometry and simple forms are the vehicles through which I aim to communicate this essential truth, which goes beyond the visible and the tangible.
Geometric abstraction is not just an aesthetic form, but a tool to make the invisible visible. Just as scientific advancements allow us to understand what we cannot directly see, art should enable us to experience the invisible relationships and forces that structure the world around us. My approach begins with the observation of nature, but I seek an abstract translation of its deeper principles, moving away from figurative representation toward a pursuit of the essential and the universal.
Through my works, I propose that art and science are not separate, but share a common purpose: to discover and express the fundamental laws of the universe. Art must be a language in itself, capable of transmitting these ideas, not only through form but through the relationships between forms and their arrangement in space. My work does not seek emotional or personal expression, but rather the manifestation of the underlying harmony that governs both nature and human thought.
With this vision, I have created a series of sculptural reliefs and geometric compositions that aim to capture that visual harmony. Through every angle, every plane, and every color, I hope that the viewer can perceive the fundamental structures that shape the world, elevating art from mere decoration to an experience of discovery and philosophical contemplation.
